Basil Instinct Caprese Salad
About the Recipe

Fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, basil, and optional roasted peppers finished with our Basil Instinct vinegar, olive oil, cracked pepper, and aromatic African Blue Basil Salt.

Ingredients

  • 2–3 ripe tomatoes, sliced

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

    (or a small spoonful of pesto if fresh basil is unavailable)

  • Optional: a few thin slices of roasted red pepper (a little goes a long way)

  • 1–2 tbsp  The Tickled Pickler’s Basil Instinct Vinegar

  • 1–2 tbsp good olive oil

  • ½–1 tsp  The Tickled Pickler’s African Blue Basil Salt

  • Fresh cracked black pepper

Preparation

  1. Arrange alternating slices of tomato and mozzarella on a serving platter.

  2. Tuck fresh basil leaves throughout the salad, or lightly spoon small amounts of pesto around the plate.

  3. Add a few thin slices of roasted red pepper if using.

  4. Drizzle evenly with Basil Instinct Vinegar and olive oil.

  5. Finish with African Basil Salt and generous cracked black pepper.

  6. Let sit 5-10 minutes before serving so the flavors mingle.



Tips & Tricks

🍅 Use Peak Tomatoes

The better the tomatoes, the better the salad. Heirloom tomatoes work especially well.


🌿 No Fresh Basil?

A small spoonful of pesto makes an excellent substitute and still delivers fresh basil flavor.


🫒 Use Good Olive Oil

Since the dressing is minimal, a flavorful olive oil makes a major difference.


🔥 Roasted Peppers Add Sweetness

Just a few small slices add smoky sweetness without overpowering the basil and mozzarella.


🧂 Finish Right Before Serving

Add the basil salt at the end to preserve texture and freshness.
